About Us

Welcome... Inspire. Inquire. Innovate !

Srishti, the literary club of Amrita, came into being in the year 2004. The inaugural function was held on March 8, 2004 and was presided over by our benevolent Swami Abhayamrita Chaitanya. It established Srishti’s credibility with an entertaining selection of events, the highlight of which was a character portrayal from Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’.

2004

Srishti has been responsible for a minor revolution in the pursuit of quality programmes for all things literary. Its maiden venture into the world of performance was Nakshatra, held on June 30, 2004 – a show that comprised debates, poetry recitals and other literary competitions.
Towards the end of 2004, an induction ceremony was conducted in order to initiate the first years into the club. This was the first Yukti – which showcased the hugely successful rendition of ‘Mind Your Language’, and a creative self-written drama with a multi-character cast. With Yukti’04, Srishti became a household name.

2005

In early 2005, Srishti was entrusted with the responsibility of organizing and conducting the literary events for the Amritolsavam.
Things got into full swing in April 2005, with ‘Hum Tum’ – a show that was exclusively by and for the first years, that brought some brilliant talents into the limelight.
The start of a new academic year brought with it Yukti’05, with the second installment of ‘Mind Your Language’ and ‘Literary Idol’ – an innovative take-off on the original series. The guest of honour was Dr. Kannan, Professor(Student Welfare).
As the club grew in strength and vision, Srishti’s most ambitious project yet got underway – Advaiya’05, the multi-lingual fest that celebrated literature and life across all barriers. Advaiya’05 spanned two weeks, from the 11th to the 19th of September, with four major shows –

* Horizon – English

* Srijan – Hindi

* Saaral – Tamil

* Sopaanam – Malayalam

With debates, quizzes, excellent dramas, informative and entertaining videos, presentations and reviews, Advaiya’05 set the standard for bigger things to come.
A lot of excitement was generated by the general quiz that was conducted under the auspices of Srishti – Blaze’05. The fun and trivia waxed fast and furious on stage as the end drew near.

2006

Srishti again took charge of the literary events for the Amritolsavam in early 2006.
In March’06, Srishti collaborated with Mindscape and various other clubs for ‘Nobel Week’. Literature and Peace fell to Srishti’s lot, and the two critically acclaimed dramas and a number of presentations were very well received.
Following this was Yukti’06, held in August 2006. This included the third and final episode of ‘Mind Your Language’, a haunting tableau that portrayed India through the ages and other programs.
Close on its heels was Advaiya’06, from 13th to 21st September – bigger, better and an unqualified success! This time around, all-out favourites were Verbal Wars – a heated debate between the staff and students; a funny, inspirational video shot by a club member and certain others. In addition to the previously mentioned days of events, Aikya’06 was also included – a triumphant last day that culminated in the brilliant multi-lingual drama – “The Call of Duty – a tale of brotherhood, love and patriotism”.
On Jan 9,2007, Srishti got off to an ethnic start with its first entirely Tamil program – Vasantham, held in honour of Pongal. The show was a big success.
In addition to the afore-mentioned events, Srishti has also been responsible for screening quite a few movies, with thought-provoking, inspiring, and socially relevant themes –
~ Life is beautiful
~ Finding Forrester
~ Spirit
~ Iqbal
~ Ice Age

Srishti hopes to continue in the coming years with the same spirit of solidarity and constant endeavour for excellence that has brought it to where it is today.
