Rules and Regulations for Aitreya ‘11

As you should know by now, Aitreya ‘11 is coming up on March 19th and 20th. The posters should’ve reached all the Amrita schools by now. The full rules and regulations posted here are over and above the rules and regulations list sent along with the invitation poster.

Block and Tackle:

Prelims:

1) A participant is given a topic and the proceedings of block and tackle follow

2) The speaker is timed for a period of 2 minutes between which his speaking skills, grammar and proficiency in the language are judged

3) Following which top 8 speakers and chosen for the final round on stage

Spelling Bee:

  • This is an individual event.
  • Words of moderate difficulty will be pronounced; twice each word.
  • There will be a total of 25 words.
  • The time allotted to write each word is only 10 seconds. No extra time will be given.
  • No proper nouns will be asked.
  • Nations, nationalities and one-word general knowledge questions are a possibility.
  • Questions could be on a one-on-one format.
  • Each word is to be legibly written on the paper provided. Illegible writing will result in that particular word not being considered during evaluation.
  • In the event of a tie, an additional of 10 words will again be asked, but the level of difficulty here will considerably increase.
  • The first 8 participants alone will move over to the finals.

Drama:

Event Description:

Teams from colleges will be provided stage area and necessary support to display a Drama based on any work of literature (only English).

Rules of the Event:

1. Strictly a literary adaptation/original script.

2. The Drama should not exceed 25mins.

3. The scripts should reach the English department of Amrita school of Engineering on or before 1st March, 2011

4. Vulgarities and profanity in the script will lead to disqualification.

5. Teams can consist of a maximum of 15 participants including stage hands. Support will always be available from Srishti coordinators

6. Music, sounds etc for the drama shall be brought along by the team in a compact disk/flash drive and submitted to the coordinators 3 hours before the commencement of the event.

Available Platform and support:

1. The stage provided is about 20ft by 15ft.

2. Changing rooms, restrooms are available for both gents and ladies.

3. 5-7 microphones and stands will be available on stage.

4. The participating teams are welcome to bring their own equipment (compatibility will have to be confirmed beforehand)

Srishti coordinators will be available throughout the event for support

Treasure Hunt:

Ø 4 participants per team

Ø Clues will be based on both literary and general knowledge of the participants

Ø Elimination will occur at each stage of the treasure hunt

Ø Use of cycles or any other mode of transportation is strictly prohibited

Ø Duration : upto 2 hours

Declamation:

  • Language: English
  • Individual Event
  • Duration: 4 minutes
  • Negative mark for exceeding time limit
  • Wearing clothes resembling character will fetch extra marks
  • Participants are required to bring a copy of speech and submit it to the event co-ordinator prior to the event

Personal:

   > Individual Event

  > Written Preliminary Round

  > Participants will compete in a series of events

Quiz:

  • Event comprises of written prelims followed by 6 rounds of quizzing on stage
  • Audio/Visual questions will also be asked in both prelims and finals.
  • 6 teams will qualify on stage

Short Movie:

1. No movie should be greater than 4 minutes in length

2. It should not contain clips from any other source

3. No vulgarity. No profanity. No plagiarism

4. The topic for the event is: “THE SUN RISES IN THE WEST”

Short Story:

- 1 hour / 750-1000 words

- An apt title for the story

Judging Criteria:

- Creativity

- Original Idea

- Writing Style

Crossword:

Prelims:

1. Only two people per team will be allowed

2. Points will be awarded according to number of clues answered

3. The time limit is half an hour

4. 6 teams will be selected for the finals.

5. Selection of finalists is entirely based on the decision of the judges

Finals:

1. Clues are categorized and are based on toughness (easy, medium, tough)

2. Points will be awarded according to the toughness of the question

3. One question from each level should be answered

4. Half a minute will be allowed to answer each clue and 45 seconds for answering the tough clue

5. There will be a separate round for visual clues
